Sek Jewellery: A Journey of Slow Craft, Self-Discovery and Jewellery with a Purpose

At ArteliLe Collective, we build a community of artists and makers who embody the values of slow craft, sustainability, and creativity with purpose. This month, we’re delighted to introduce you to Susannah Sek, the creator behind Sek Jewellery — a conscious jewellery brand that transforms sea glass and silver into timeless jewellery designs, handcrafted in Bali with heart and intention.

A Brand Born of Craft and Community

Susannah’s journey with Sek Jewellery began in Bali, a place renowned for its long tradition of fine silver craftsmanship. It was there she met Made Hana, a silversmith whose skill had been passed down through generations of her family, who breathed life into Susannah’s jewellery designs.

“I was amazed at how talented she was and really wanted to help her keep her craftsmanship alive” Susannah recalls. “I wanted to create a brand that puts quality first, supported local artisans, and gave back to local communities—and that’s where Made made it happen.”

Each piece of Sek Jewellery is:

  • Fairly traded – artisans are paid directly, fairly, and respectfully for their work.

  • Crafted in 925 sterling silver – inspired by the natural beauty of Bali, with pieces named after Susannah’s favourite places there.

  • Packaged sustainably – rings are nestled in recyclable glass bottles with biodegradable corks, avoiding wasteful packaging. Even envelopes are reused, keeping the focus on purpose over polish.

A Journey of Self-Growth and Creativity

Sek Jewellery is more than a brand—it’s a reflection of Susannah’s own journey of self-growth. Back in 2018, she set out on a solo trip across Southeast Asia without a fixed plan, simply trusting the process. What was meant to be three months unfolded into 18 transformative months of travel, connection, and discovery.

One evening in Vietnam, while swimming at the beach with two friends who would later become her biggest cheerleaders, she confessed a dream: “I want to start a jewellery brand.” That spark became the foundation for Sek Jewellery.

Through travel and reflection, Susannah gathered life lessons that became her brand’s core values:

  • In the lowest of moments, the only way is up.

  • Everything will always work out, sometimes not as you planned, but as it should be.

  • Surround yourself with people who feel like sunshine.

“These learnings helped me form my brand values of self-love, adventure, and community,” Susannah says. “I hope that every time someone wears a piece of Sek Jewellery, they can embody these values in their life.”

The Importance of Slow Living

For Susannah, the philosophy of slow living wasn’t something she intentionally sought—it emerged naturally during her travels. Carrying only a backpack for a year meant caring for her belongings, shopping consciously, and learning to value presence over pace.

“Life can get busy now that I’m back in London, but I try to mentally slow and pause whenever I can,” she shares.

This ethos carries through to her brand. Each Sek Jewellery piece is slowly handmade in small batches over several months, ensuring that every design is treasured, not mass-produced.

Towards a More Sustainable Future in Jewellery

Sustainability, for Susannah, is rooted in the small, mindful decisions that add up to meaningful change:

  • Creating in small batches to reduce overproduction and waste.

  • Recycling unsold items into new designs.

  • Sourcing and producing locally to strengthen artisan communities.

  • Ensuring fair pay and recognition for craftsmanship.

It’s a vision of jewellery that not only adorns but also carries a story of respectfor the maker, for the materials, and for the wearer.

✨ At ArteliLe Collective, we’re proud to celebrate makers like Susannah who are redefining what jewellery can mean: not just decoration, but a symbol of slow craft, sustainability, and soulful living.
